letter to Katlyn Wynne , Ontario premier on Moridi's misleading public on Reza Pahlvai

June 21, 2013

Hon. Kathleen Wynne
Premier of Ontario
Legislative Building
Queen’s Park
Toronto, Ontario
M7A 1A1

Dear Premier Wynne,

As members of Ontario’s Iranian-Canadian community, we are writing to express our profound sense of dismay at the appearance of Reza Pahlavi at Queen’s Park on June 3, 2013.

Mr. Pahlavi is the son of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the notorious Shah of Iran who was deposed by a popular revolution in February 1979. The Shah was widely opposed throughout Iranian society because of his autocratic rule, his violation of human rights, and his theft of national resources. In fact he fitted very well in the group of the totalitarians same as Mubarak and Gaddafi. Many of us who now call Canada home were prosecuted by the Shah’s repressive regime.

It is for these reasons that we were shocked to see Mr. Reza Moridi, a member of your own caucus, introduce Mr. Pahlavi to the Ontario Legislature as “the Crown Prince and a strong advocate for democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in Iran” (http://goo.gl/fjqFF). While we appreciate Mr. Moridi’s efforts for the wellbeing of the Richmond Hill Community, we believe his decision to recognize Mr. Pahlavi as a representative leader of our community demonstrates a grave lack of judgment, which minimizes the suffering of tens of thousands of Iranians under the Shah’s rule.

Our community has a long and proud history in this province, which includes a genuine commitment to civic engagement and participation, and to the expansion of human rights in Ontario, Iran and around the world. We trust that your government shares these goals, and we hope that, in future, all members of your caucus will demonstrate the appropriate tact and sensitivity that these matters deserve.

We look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Respectfully yours,

letter to Justin Trudeau on Reza Moridi's pro sanction stance

June 21 -2013

Dear Mr. Trudeau,
Liberal Leader

As members of Canada’s Iranian-Canadian community, we are writing to express our profound sense of dismay at the appearance of Reza Pahlavi at Queen’s Park on June 3, 2013.

Reza Moridi, a Liberal Member of Provincial Parliament in Ontario, introduce Mr. Pahlavi to the Ontario Legislature as Iran’s Crown Prince while praising his dedication to freedom and human rights in Iran (http://goo.gl/fjqFF). While we appreciate Mr. Moridi’s efforts for the wellbeing of the Richmond Hill Community, we believe his decision to recognize Mr. Pahlavi in this way demonstrates a grave lack of judgment, which minimizes the suffering of tens of thousands of Iranians under the Shah’s rule.

In addition, we are concerned that the Liberal Party of Canada has yet to comment on recent elections in Iran or to distinguish itself from the Conservative Party’s position, which fails to recognize how, even in a flawed system, ordinary Iranians continue to find a way to register opposition to their government.

Sadly, Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird’s arrogant dismissal of the election as “meaningless” reveals a total disconnect with reform and opposition movements inside Iran. Though he later, half -heartedly changed his position, under the pressure from the community, we still regard his first voluntary reaction as being the original statement of the Harper’s government.

Our community has a long and proud history in this country, which includes a genuine commitment to civic engagement and participation, and to the expansion of human rights in Canada, Iran and around the world. We trust that the Liberal Party of Canada shares these goals, and we hope that your relationship with our community will respect our
collective aspirations, and not merely the ambition or opportunism of a select few individuals.

We look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Respectfully yours,

Hostile and undiplomatic action by Harper Government against Iranians is not acceptable

Hostile and undiplomatic action by Harper Government against Iranians is not acceptable

A Supporter of Rouhani- Tabriz
After the election results were announced in Iran and Rouhani was elected as the seventh president, the Harper Government made another mistake by harshly criticizing the government while millions of Iranians had participated in the election and celebrated its results.
The Harper Government does not have access to the grassroots Iranian community in Canada, nor in Iran. Therefore, it has no idea what is really going on in Iran and in the Middle East, for that matter.

Celebration

Harper Government advisers are NOT capable of correctly analyzing Iran, its politics, and its people, partly because the Government sources are only a few Iranians who generally do know enough Persian to have access to the news and other sources of information. mostly they have not been in Iran.
However, the election results are a big loss for Harper Government’s foreign policy. Also, the fake opposition created by Neo-conservatives of Canada faced a big defeat, too.
The fake opposition will lose  their shaky coalition who falsely claims to be voice of the Iranian community in Canada. That’s a false claim because they are interested in seeking power, and not the community at large.
I hope the fake opposition centred around Reza Moridi ,  who does not represent the Iranian community’s interests by his actions, including his support for the sanctions”) to learn from the events starts trying to defend the rights and interests of the community not the Neo-conservative who are endangering Canada’s reputation among nations as a broker for peace. Jean Chretien, the former Prime Minister of Canada, stated on Jan 14, 2013 in Ottawa during the Liberal convention, that wherever he went, other nations would ask him what happened to Canada.
The Hostile stance toward Iranian people will not help the Iranian community to improve democracy and human rights in Iran.
Iranians have the ability to decide their political future. The Harper Government, Jason Kenny ( Immigration Minister, Peter Mckay, Defence Minister, and John Baird, Foreign minister,  have lost yet another opportunity to show goodwill and friendship toward the Iranian community and Iranian people, by not acknowledging Iranian’s celebrations for a hopeful future.
